The Camp

The Camp 2022 will take place at the Biber Camp at the Kronenburger lake in the Eifel in Germany.

In addition to the following text, please read the “Terms of participations” on the registration form.

This Camp will be a bit “back to the basic”, although it will definitely offer more comfort than the first legendary English OBOD-camps, where there was not much more than a meadow to meet 😉. We decided for a basic, but beautiful place in nature, which also allows to keep prices for the camp low.

Upon arrival you will be sorted into your house. Not unlike this is done in a famous book we probably all now. This house is the group with whom you will share facilities like toilet, bathroom, kitchen. Next to that your house will get some magical assignments during the camp.

Accomodation in tents or 8-bed dormitory

There is one big wooden house, five small ones and a tent for gathering, meals and workshops. In total we can host 90 people. You can choose, if you would like to sleep indoor or outdoor:

Outdoor: The camp site can host up to 50 people in tents and up to 10 Camper/Caravans. If you decide for camping, please note that you have to bring your own tent and camping equipment. Water and electricity are available at the campsite. Showers and toilets are in 50 m walking distance in the wooden houses. We will sort people in groups to share facilities.

Indoor: There are 5 wooden cabins with 1 dormitory per house with 8 beds (4 bunk-beds). There are no single- or double-bed rooms at the camp.

The cabins do have one small group room with kitchen with table and chairs, and a small bathroom with shower and toilets you share in total with max. 12 people, as we will assign some people from the camp site to the cabins for sharing facilities. In case of bad weather smaller workshops might take place in some of these group rooms during the day.

If you sleep in a bed inside the house you need to bring your bed linen (bedsheet, pillowcase and bed linen or sleeping bag). Please note, that bed linen cannot be hired. If you come by train/bus and can´t bring bed linen, please contact us. As the summer plan for public transport in the region is not yet available we will inform you as soon as we have this information and when necessary organise a shuttle service. Nearest station is Dahlem (Eifel).

If you would like to bring kids younger 14 we would ask you to decide for the campsite. The small dormitories would be difficult to share with young kids and adults who do not know each other. If you come with befriended families with in total 8 people we can create a “family house” on your request, please write an email in that case.

If you would like to bring your dog, we would like to ask you to decide for the campsite. The cabins are small and will be shared with 8 people. Please let us know in an extra email, if you like to bring your dog, as places for dogs are limited. Note: the venue asks for an extra fee for dogs of 4 euros per dog per night.

If you need more privacy or comfort: there is a camping park close by where you can rent smaller cabins (pets are allowed) and in Kronenburg there are several accommodations too. As we rented the Biber-Camp for an all-in-one price we are sorry for not being able to reduce the fee if you decide to sleep in another accommodation. Useful links:

Catering

You can choose with the registration if you would like to do self-catering or book including all meals (no single-meal booking possible). Our meals will be cooked with love and sustainability by our OBOD-member Michael! He is doing wonderful vegetarian and vegan food. Fee includes breakfast, lunch and dinner and fruits. Included will be water with the meals and there is hot water, tea bags and coffee at all times. We will provide extra drinks (beer, wine, lemonade, juice) for a small price or you can bring your own supply.

We think it will be a great nourishing experience not to hire a catering-service but to experience great vegetarian/vegan food cooked by an OBOD-member! Due to this there will be some duties to be shared:

  • We will ask everyone to contribute to one meal with a kitchen duty like cutting vegetables, cleaning the kitchen etc.
  • We ask everyone to bring own cutlery and clean it by yourself after each meal.
  • Michael can offer vegan food without animal products, but please note if you have diet requests or allergies, these can not be met. In this case we would like to ask you to bring your own food and choose for self-catering. If you book an indoor-sleeping place you can use the small kitchen in the cabin and for a small number of caravans/campers this is possible too.
  • Please note, there is no kiosk or supermarket nearby in walking distance. If you choose self-catering please bring your needed food supply. If you need meat or nibblings, please bring those too by yourself.

Program and more about our camp

We will publish more information in the coming months on this website www.oakwisdom.org. If you register to the newsletter you will receive updates in your mailbox.

If you have not been at a gathering yet: It all starts end ends with a big opening ritual (on Friday) and the closing ceremony (on Sunday). Next to meeting likeminded lovely OBOD-members there will be an inspiring program with several workshops held by OBOD-members on various topics, but with a red ribbon. In addition to that we will have Grove meetings on Friday where you can gather with the members of the grade you are in and hear and talk about a specific theme of your grade. And of course, to enjoy and show our bardic skills, we ask you to participate in the Saturday night Eisteddfod! If you have not experienced this beautiful event yet: it is a stage to share poems, music, songs, stories, dance or other kind of art – everyone contributing finds a save environment and appreciating audience!

On Thursday evening we will offer initiations for the three grades Bards, Ovates and Druids, if you would like to experience one next to your self-initiation in the course. Places are limited, so we ask you to decide with your registration. And we are looking forward for people who would like to help with the initiations (if you had already an initiation), please let us know with your registration too.

All evenings there will be a camp fire to meet old friends and to get to know new ones.

Helping to make the camp a great time

To create a good time at the camp, all of us will also share some duties and responsibilities. Every house and camp side group will be asked to care for cleaning their facilities in-between (end cleaning is taken care for by the venue). We will ask you for help in the end to put everything back in its place and clear the camp (e.g. putting down the kitchen tent, staple chairs and benches etc.).
